Nigeria’s Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that he had a perfect relationship with the late Queen Elizabeth II of England.
KanyiDaily had reported that Queen Elizabeth, who was the longest-serving British monarch, died at the age of 96 on Thursday, September 9, 2021.
A funeral service for the late monarch was held on Monday, September 19, with a lie in state at Westminster Abbey as mourners seated for the state burial.
In a statement signed by his Media Aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo spoke about when he hosted the queen in Nigeria during the Commonwealth heads of government meeting in Abuja in 2003.
The former president, who spoke on the day Queen Elizabeth was buried, described her as a personality with great human relations, whom he equally had a perfect relationship with.
Obasanjo further eulogized the late Head of Commonwealth of Nations, hinting that he was about to leave the Secondary school, when the late Queen first visited the country in 1956.
The former President said he was fortunate to have hosted the Queen as Nigerian President during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), in Abuja in 2003, “and I can say that she was wonderful.”
Obasanjo said “My relationship with the Queen was perfect, she was a great, great woman, who had shown great example in human relationship. She carried herself so graciously, so dignified. She was somebody I have tremendous respect for.
“I join the rest of the world to mourn with her family, the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth (because she was the Head of Commonwealth), and the rest of the world.
“I also mourn with Prince Charles, who promised to continue from where she had stopped. May her soul rest in peace.”
KanyiDaily had reported that Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo was in London to represent Nigeria at the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth.
