Ogun Assembly Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo Granted N300m Bail  

Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo granted bail by the Federal High court in Lagos.

Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo has been granted bail in the sum of N300m with two sureties in like sum.

Oluomo was granted bail by the Federal High Court, Lagos in the absence of objections from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Kanyi Daily had earlier reported that the speaker was arraigned alongside two other persons before Justice Daniel Osiagor over alleged N2.5bn money laundering charges.

They were charged with 11-count of conspiracy, forgery, and stealing. They all pleaded not guilty.

EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo had told the court that he would allow it to use its discretion to determine the issue of bail

On his part, counsel to the Speaker, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), asked the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms.

Justice Osiagor in granting the speaker bail, held that one of his sureties must not be less than a level 16 officer in the Civil Service while the other must possess landed property within the courts jurisdiction.

The court granted the second and third defendant bail in the sum of N100m with two sureties also in like sum.

One of their sureties must not be less than a level 14 Officer in the Civil Service. The other must also possess landed property within the courts jurisdiction.

All the sureties are to possess three-year tax clearance and swear to an affidavit of means.

All defendants are also to deposit their travel documents with the registrar of the court.

The defendants will be remanded in the custody of the EFCC, pending when they meet their bail conditions.

They will remain in custody for a week after which they will be transferred to the Abeokuta Division of the court for further orders on their remand.

Recall that Olakunle Oluomo was arrested on September 1 by operatives of the EFCC at the Murtala Muhammad international airport in Lagos.
