Ebonyi State Police Command has dispersed residents who were holding a one-million man match in support of Labour Party(LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Obi’s supporters known as Obidient had gathered on Saturday at the Pastoral Centre of the Catholic Church, Abakaliki, for the rally when police stormed the area and dispersed them with teargas.
This development caused panic among the youths who scattered around the premises, causing both human and vehicular traffic on the popular Old Enugu Road, in the capital city, on Saturday morning.
One of the supporters, Steve Ugama, said aside dispersing and tear-gassing the supporters, about five of his colleagues have been arrested by the police.
He said, “This is inhuman and undemocratic. We have gathered here this morning for our peaceful March, all of a sudden, the police came and started tear-gassing us and arresting our people.
“They said we can’t hold the march, because Governor David Umahi asked them to stop us, that we can’t hold it. About four or our colleague have been arrested. We need help here.”
KanyiDaily recalls that ten lawyers had also asked a federal high court in Lagos to stop a rally scheduled for October 1 in Lagos, organized by Peter Obi’s supporters.
