Three suspected robbers were killed at Afia in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State during a gun duel with men of the State Police Command.

A spokesperson for the command, Catherine Anene disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday night.

Anene said the officers from Ukum, who responded to a distress call, engaged the suspected robbers in a gun battle.

She said, “On 14/10/2022 at about 0230hrs, a distress call was received from Afia, Ukum Local Government Area, that armed robbers were robbing within the area.

“A patrol team was deployed to the area swiftly. On reaching the scene, the robbers engaged the police in a gun duel.

“Three suspects sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were confirmed dead while other suspects escaped with wounds.”

The police spokesperson said items recovered from the suspects include one locally made pistol loaded with five rounds of live ammunition, a machete, and some items suspected to be charms.

The police image maker stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members, adding that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Wale Abass, commended the efforts of community members to assist the police in operation and assured them of quick response to distress calls.

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the Lagos police command arrested five traffic robbers who attempted to rob a motorist.
