Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has said he has never smoked cannabis in his life.
He disclosed this during a Twitter Space hosted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), with the theme, “Cannabis: Health or Wealth.”
The theme was whether cannabis should be legalised or not.
According to Sowore, even if cannabis is legalised, he would not consume it because he is already “high” on justice.
“I do not consume cannabis. Never smoked cannabis in my life. Even if you legalise it, I’d probably not take it because I think I’m high on justice already. I don’t need to add any more substance to it,” Sowore said.
Sowore, who has been an advocate for the legalisation of cannabis in the country, had in 2018, said the country will export marijuana if he is elected Nigeria’s president.
Speaking further during the space, Sowore noted that he maintained his stance because “I know all those countries that have legalised/decriminalised growing of cannabis will come and impose their products upon Nigeria whereas Nigeria has some of the best products already”.
The Sahara Reporters publisher opined that beyond consumption, cannabis can also be used for the production of medicines, textiles, and concrete.
Nigeria has since, outlawed the use of marijuana.
Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the NDLEA boss, Buba Marwa said any lawmaker who vote to legalise cannabis won’t return to their various constituencies.
