Several Injured in explosion on Istiklal Avenue, Istanbul’s Popular shopping hub

An explosion at Istiklal Avenue, a popular shopping hub in Istanbul, Turkey has left several people injured.

Turkish Media is reporting that the explosion at the popular pedestrian Istiklal Avenue injured more than 11 people.

Footage shows fire trucks, Ambulances and police officers at the scene of the explosion.

A video posted online showed people running immediately they had a loud bang and flames started erupting.

Several Injured in explosion on Istiklal Avenue, Istanbul's Popular Pedestrian shopping hub

Ali Yerlikaya, the Governor of Istanbul tweeted that the explosion occurred at about 4:20 pm (13:20 GMT) today and that there were deaths and injuries. However, he did not say how many.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known.

The street was previously targeted by a suicide bomber in 2016.
