Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodinma has said the gunmen’s attack on the Owerri headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is “politically contrived”.
Kanyi Daily early reported that gunmen had in the early hours of Monday, attacked the INEC office with firebombs.
Part of the building caught fire and was damaged.
The Owerri attack was however repelled as three of the perpetrators, including their commander, were gunned down.
Reacting to the attack, Governor Uzodinma, who addressed journalists at the Nigerian Police Force Command, Owerri, argued that what is happening in the state is “politically contrived”.
He questioned why INEC is the target of such attacks.
The governor lamented that INEC does not need a such distraction at “this point and stage of our elections. INEC should be supported by all and sundry.”
