KanyiDaily recalls that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has continuously claimed that it has released sufficient new Naira notes to commercial banks across the country.
However, commercial banks have maintained that they do not have adequate new notes to issue to their customers, hence, many banks across the country have completely stopped issuing money to their customers with a few of them issuing a maximum of N10,000 or N5,000.
It was obsereved that while most banking halls were empty due to the paucity of funds in bank vaults, large crowds had formed outside some of the few banks that were rumoured to be preparing to load their Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).
But in an unverified video shared on Twitter by @Edrees4P, a bandit leader could be seen displaying wads of new naira notes while speaking about the scarcity of the new currency.
Baleri, who spoke in the Hausa language in the two minutes 20 seconds video clip, boosted that he had up to N10 million of the new naira notes to purchase more weapons.
According to Punch, some defence blogs claimed that the new naira notes in the terrorist’s possession were ransom he allegedly received from relatives of abductees.
Kachalla was one of the 19 bandits/terrorists kingpins that were declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters in November 2022.
The military high command also placed a N5m bounty on each of them to encourage Nigerians to volunteer information that could lead to their arrest.
Meanwhile, many Nigerians have taken to the streets of Lagos to protest the scarcity of new Naira notes in the country.
