Professor Emmanuel Osodeke Re-Elected ‘Unopposed’ As ASUU National President

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have re-elected Professor Emmanuel Osodeke unopposed as their National President.

Professor Emmanuel Osodeke was granted another two-year term to lead the union following an election in the early hours of Monday, during the 22nd National Delegates Conference of ASUU, hosted by the University of Jos in Plateau State from May 19 to 21, 2023.

In addition to Osodeke’s re-election from the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Chris Piwuna, a Consultant Psychiatrist and Associate Professor in the College of Medicine at the University of Jos, was also re-elected as the Vice President of the union.

Several other national officers of ASUU were re-elected during the conference, including Professor Siji Sowande as Treasurer, Professor Ade Adejumo as Financial Secretary, Dr Austen Sado as Investment Secretary, Dr Adamu Babayo as Internal Auditor, and Dr Aisha Bawa, who replaced Dr Stella-Maris Okey as the Welfare Secretary.

Speaking with Punch during his journey back to Abuja, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke expressed his satisfaction with the successful conference and election.

He noted that a detailed statement would be issued regarding the conference, his re-election, and the other national officers once they returned to their headquarters.
