BREAKING: EFCC Has Not Declared Matawalle Wanted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Sunday, denied that it has declared the immediate past Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle wanted.

The EFCC said this in a terse statement signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren.

Uwujaren said the commission’s reaction followed a report by a national daily, The Tribune of today, Sunday, titled “Alleged N70b Fraud: EFCC Declares Ex-Zamfara Gov, Matawalle Wanted.”

He said the reports purported that the EFCC had declared Matawalle wanted and requested the Department of State Service, DSS, to arrest him, “anywhere he is seen”.

The anti-graft agency spokesman said
Without prejudice to the case involving the former governor, the report is incorrect as the Commission has yet to declare Matawalle wanted or solicit the assistance of any Agency, including the DSS, to effect his arrest.”

According to him, the commission has a standard procedure for declaring persons wanted and communicating same to the public, not through faceless “security sources”.

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the EFCC had a few weeks tackled Matawalle to provide proof that the commission demanded a bribe of $2 million from him.
