Burna Boy Earns 3rd Billboard Hot 100 Entry, Gives Byron Messia His First Career Entry With ‘Talibans II’

Nigerian Afrobeats star, Burna Boy has played a pivotal role in propelling Kittitian dancehall artist, Byron Messia, to his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

This achievement comes after the successful remix of Messia’s breakthrough hit “Talibans,” now titled “Talibans II,” which debuts at an impressive No. 99 on the chart dated August 5.

The captivating remix, released through Ztekk/Simple Stupid Records/Geffen Records/On A Spaceship/Bad Habit/Atlantic Recording Corporation on July 21, has garnered 7.6 million radio airplay audience impressions, marking a notable 26% increase.

Additionally, the song recorded 4.2 million streams in the United States, reflecting a remarkable surge of 136%, while the number of downloads sold witnessed an impressive rise of 187% during the tracking week of July 21-27, according to Luminate.

Prior to the remix’s success, Byron Messia’s original solo version of “Talibans,” released on January 20, had already been making waves on various Billboard charts since early July.

This week, the original version climbs the ranks, reaching No. 15 on Rap Airplay, No. 26 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, No. 31 on Rhythmic Airplay, and No. 32 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay.

Billboard considers all versions of the song as one collective entry on their charts.

Byron Messia, who was born in Jamaica before moving to St. Kitts and Nevis at two months old, is an emerging talent on Billboard’s charts.

“Talibans” marks his first song to chart on the Hot 100, while his collection, “No Love,” which features the hit track, debuted at an impressive No. 8 on Reggae Albums in June and now achieves a new peak at No. 3 on the latest list.

The gifted artist has previously released six albums: “Different Perspectives” in 2017, “Top 10 (2017)” in 2017, “Byron Messia (Top 2018)” in 2020, “S.I.G.H.” in 2020, “HitsTapes” in 2020, and “Pills Nd Pain” in 2021.

On the other hand, Burna Boy expanded his illustrious Billboard chart history with “Talibans II.”

This latest achievement marks his third appearance on the Hot 100, following his featured collaboration with Justin Bieber on “Loved By You” in 2021 (peaking at No. 87) and “Last Last” in October, which reached a peak position of No. 44.

Beyond the Hot 100, Burna Boy holds an impressive record of 30 entries on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, the second-most after Asake (32).

His song “Last Last” dominated the chart, reigning at No. 1 for an impressive eight weeks, making it the second-longest reign after Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down” which held the top position for a remarkable 48 weeks.

Meanwhile, Jamaican singer, Jada Ashanti Murphy, popularly known as Jada Kingdom, has addressed the speculations about her relationship with Nigerian superstar, Burna Boy.
