Ashleigh Plumptre, a Super Falcons defender, was greeted warmly by her Al-Ittihad colleagues as she practised with them for the first time.

This week, Plumptre joined the Saudi Arabia Professional Football Women’s League team.

After leaving Leicester City at the end of last season, the 25-year-old joined the Tigers on a free transfer.

The centre-back rejected down offers to play in the Middle East from many English clubs, including Manchester United.

Plumptre will be playing outside of England for the second time, following a stint with the LA Galaxy in 2019.

Her new team has given the Nigerian jersey number 22.
