Boko Haram Allegedly Kills Army Colonel And Six Soldiers In Borno Ambush

Boko Haram insurgents have carried out a deadly ambush along the Biu-Buni Yadi road in Borno state, resulting in the death of a Lieutenant Colonel and six soldiers.

According to Daily Trust, sources said that the attack took place near Kamuya, a village close to Buratai, the hometown of the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd).

The soldiers, belonging to the 135 Special Force Battalion Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Buratai, were on their way to Damaturu, Yobe state, to purchase fuel when they fell into the ambush.

A security source lamented the tragic incident, stating, “It’s very sad; they were soldiers of 135 Special Force BN FOB in Buratai. They were ambushed on their way to Damaturu, Yobe state, to buy fuel.

“Unfortunately, we lost an officer, a driver, gunner and four other escorts, while the wounded are in the hospital responding to treatment.”

A local witness, who narrowly escaped the attack, recounted the intense gun battle, describing how the insurgents, outnumbering the soldiers, overwhelmed them.

The survivor attributed their survival to divine intervention, saying, “I can’t describe the kind of gun battle that ensued, the insurgents who were in large number overwhelmed the soldiers. It’s by God grace that I survived.”

This comes a few days after the Nigerian Army declared eight people wanted in connection with the recent tragic killing of 17 soldiers in Delta State.
