Police Probe Death Of VGC Chairman, Gihan Mbelu Found Dead In His Car In Lagos

The police have begun an investigation into the death of Gihan Mbelu, a 42-year-old man discovered unconscious in his car in the Victoria Garden City (VGC) area of Lagos State.

Gihan Mbelu,  the chairman of Victoria Garden City (VGC) in Lekki, was found unconscious in his C300 4Matic car around 10:10 a.m. on Friday, April 25.

He was discovered by concerned residents who noticed his car had been running unattended for hours at the spot where it was parked around VGC, in the Ajah area of the state.

While initial speculation suggested Gihan Mbelu might be asleep, further attempts to awaken him proved futile, prompting concerns about his well-being.

Efforts were made to transport Mbelu to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for medical attention, where he was pronounced dead by attending medical staff.

An eyewitness, Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, who shared details of the incident on his Facebook page, claimed the VGC chairman died of high blood pressure.

Iwuchukwu wrote, “His car was stationary, running for hours, while he lay motionless. They rushed him to the hospital, where they confirmed his death.

“I guess we lost him to the silent killer, high blood pressure. The rate at which 40-year-old men are dropping dead to this silent killer is becoming alarming and worrying.”

The VGC Chirman’s body was subsequently transferred to the hospital’s morgue.

The incident was promptly reported to the police to facilitate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mbelu’s untimely passing.

Responding to inquiries, Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, confirmed the commencement of an investigation into the matter.

Gihan Mbelu was the spouse of Eloho Gihan-Mbelu, the Founding Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Endeavor Nigeria.

KanyiDaily had reported how a female lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, Dr. Mrs. Adefolalu Funmilola, was found dead in her residence in the Gbaiko area of Minna.
