MTN Closes Offices Nationwide Following SIM-NIN Outrage

Telecom giant MTN has closed all its offices and service centers across Nigeria.

This decision followed an uproar from subscribers after the network provider barred their lines on Sunday, July 28, due to mismatches between their National Identification Number (NIN) and SIM registration.

A viral video on social media showed a mob vandalizing an MTN office in the FESTAC Town area of Lagos State in protest.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the police had restored order at the scene.

In response to the unrest, MTN announced on Tuesday that all its shops nationwide would be closed on July 30, 2024. They advised customers to use their digital channels for support.

“Yello customer, please be informed that our shops nationwide will be closed today, 30th July 2024.

“We are available 24/7 to support you via our digital channels,” MTN said on its customer support X handle.
