Ali Ndume, an APC member representing Borno South, was replaced by Tahir Monguno from Borno North.
The decision was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio after receiving strong support from the senators during the plenary session on Wednesday, July 17.
The move came after a letter from APC national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje and party secretary Bashir Ajibola, which recommended Ndume’s removal due to his “unguarded utterances” against the federal government.
The APC leaders accused Ndume of trying to divide the country and harming its international reputation.
The party subsequently recommended that Ndume’s position in the Senate should be taken over by Monguno.
During plenary session on Wednesday, the Senate voted overwhelmingly in favor of the recommendation.
Senate President Akpabio then directed the Sergeant at Arms to escort Monguno to Ndume’s seat as the new Chief Whip.
Last week, Ndume told journalists that President Tinubu was “caged” in the Presidential Villa, preventing him from understanding that many Nigerians are hungry.
KanyiDaily recalls that Ali Ndume recently revealed that the deal for the presidential yacht had been finalized.
