Kidnapped Ekiti University Ex-Deputy Vice-Chancellor Found Buried In Shallow Grave

The former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Prof. Olorunfemi Olaofe has been found dead.

Olorunfemi Olaofe and his guard were kidnapped from his home on July 9, but his car was later found by the police.

It was gathered that the kidnappers initially demanded a N50 million ransom but then stopped communicating.

Sources told PUNCH that the 79-year-old retired professor was found buried in a shallow grave in the bush, but they couldn’t confirm whether he died from old age or was killed by his kidnappers.

The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Mr. Adeniran Akinwale, confirmed Olaofe’s death, revealing that the police are still investigating and will provide more details later.

He said, “Yes, the professor has been found dead and we are doing everything possible to exhume the body for burial.

“However, we have arrested so many people and you know the circumstances surrounding the incident and we suspected insiders’ work in which the security man employed by the professor was the one who planned it.

“They (abductors) kidnapped the man with him so that we would not suspect.

“In the process of rescuing him, we have arrested some people. I can’t say much about the security guard, but at the appropriate time, we will brief the public,” the CP said.

During the search for Olaofe, groups like the Are Ekiti Progressives Union, Ekiti Council of Elders, and the Nigerian Universities Pensioners’ Association, EKSU Branch, urged security agencies and the state government to increase their efforts to find him.

KanyiDaily had also reported how schoolchildren and teachers from Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure-Ekiti, Ekiti State, were kidnapped by armed men.
