Speaking to journalists on Tuesday morning after his release from the Ekiti State Correctional Centre, Dele Farotimi emphasized that he has never lied about anyone, asserting that everything he has said about people or institutions is based on truth.
Farotimi’s release followed his fulfillment of bail conditions set by a magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti last Friday. The conditions included a N30 million bond, two sureties (one being a property owner), the surrender of his passport, and a restriction on granting media interviews post-release.
Addressing the press, Farotimi said, “It is not ever an easy journey when you are fighting evil, but some years back, before I started this work, God told me that the truth is enough. It is the only weapon with which you can slay the monster called Nigeria, which is the truth.
“In my war against the evil empire that we all lived in, I have never lied against anyone. If I don’t know, I will say I don’t know.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Dele Farotimi was arrested and remanded over his book, “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System”, where he allegedly criticized Afe Babalola over a long-standing Supreme Court land dispute judgment.
