Bollywood actor, Saif Ali Khan has undergone surgery and is now out of danger after being stabbed by an intruder at his Mumbai home.
According to his team, the attack happened early on Thursday in a high-end area of Mumbai where Khan lives with his family.
Police told BBC Marathi that the actor was injured during a struggle with an unknown man who entered his home after midnight.
Investigations are ongoing with teams assigned to look into the incident which has sparked concern among Saif Ali Khan’s fans.
The actor’s team released a statement saying, “Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress.”
Dr. Nitin Dange, who treated Khan at Lilavati Hospital, explained that the actor “sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife in the spine”.
“A surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid. Two other deep wounds on his left hand and one other on his neck were repaired by the plastic surgery team,” he said.
Saif Ali Khan, married to Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, has two children. While the family has not made public statements, Khan’s team confirmed they are safe.
Although details of the attack remain unclear, police said an “unknown person” entered the actor’s home, leading to a confrontation between him and the intruder.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dixit Gedam explained that an argument broke out during the incident.
Khan’s team described the event as an “attempted burglary” but did not provide further information. They requested that the media and fans respect their privacy, as it is now a police matter.
