The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has confirmed that more than a dozen military personnel from the Air Force base at Sam Ethnan Barracks, Ikeja, Lagos, attacked the company’s head office.
Speaking to Vanguard over the phone, IKEDC spokesperson, Kingsley Okotie revealed that the uniformed men arrived in a truck and physically assaulted several IKEDC employees early Thursday morning, March 6, 2025.
“They came in with their truck, beating the staff of our company. They even took my laptop, and now most staff can’t find their phones since they left. They came in around 8 a.m. this morning, Thursday, March 6th, 2025,” he said.
Explaining the reason behind the attack, Okotie stated that the Air Force base had been disconnected from the power grid 10 days earlier due to an outstanding debt of over N4 billion.
“They molested and assaulted our staff. They went away with about 16 of our vehicles with our drivers driving them at one point, they destroyed all our offices, stole laptops, phones, and destroyed all our IT infrastructure, blinding all the cameras CCTV,” he added.
Videos from the incident showed armed military personnel inside the premises, with at least seven employees forced to kneel while others were physically attacked. Several workers were seen fleeing for safety.
