Han Jong-Hee, born in 1962, had been leading Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices divisions since 2022.
That same year, he was appointed vice chairman and co-CEO, sharing leadership responsibilities with Jun Young-Hyun, who oversees the company’s semiconductor business.
In an internal memo see by CNN, Samsung honored Han’s contributions, highlighting his 37-year tenure and his pivotal role in making the company’s TV business a global leader.
The message also acknowledged his leadership in the electronics and appliances sector, which helped Samsung navigate a challenging business climate.
“Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement read.
Samsung has not yet announced who will replace Han Jong-Hee, the spokesperson told CNN.
Just last week, Han presided over the company’s annual investor meeting, where he addressed concerns over Samsung’s stock performance.
He warned that 2025 could be a tough year due to economic uncertainties but reassured investors that Samsung was actively pursuing strategic mergers and acquisitions to drive growth.
“There are some difficulties in doing semiconductor M&As due to regulatory issues and various national interests, but we’re determined to produce some tangible results this year,” Reuters quoted him as saying.
Han Jong-Hee joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a degree in electrical engineering from Inha University.
Before leading the company’s consumer electronics division, he played a key role in managing Samsung’s display business.
