Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori Defects From PDP To APC

The switch was confirmed on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, after a private meeting at the Government House in Asaba.

Insiders say the governor made the decision after holding wide-ranging talks with key political figures.

It’s believed the move is aimed at supporting the state’s long-term development.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who won the 2023 election under the PDP, was welcomed into the APC by top party leaders.

Political analysts see this as a significant shift that could change the direction of politics in Delta State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Although the governor hasn’t made a formal statement yet, more information about his reasons for defecting is expected soon.

KanyiDaily recalls that a member of the House of Representatives, Oluwole Oke also dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
