Grace-Charis Bassey Dumps Nollywood To Join US Navy

Nollywood actress Grace-Charis Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, has become a U.S. citizen and Sailor after completing boot camp training with the United States Navy.

The 35-year-old, who hails from Cross River State, shared the news on Instagram, posting photos and videos of her graduation while proudly wearing her Navy uniform.

She dedicated the milestone to her late father, Commander Asido Bassey Effah, who served in the Nigerian Navy.

First, All Glory To God,” she wrote. “Last week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States.

“This journey wasn’t easy — but I carried my roots, my faith, and my vision every step of the way.

She reflected on her journey, saying: “Nigeria raised me. America challenged me. I stand today stronger and more determined than ever.

“Thank you to everyone who believed in me. This is just the beginning. In Honor of my Late Father – Naval CDR Asido Bassey Effah.”

Grace also revealed that she joined the Navy choir, allowing her to stay connected to her artistic side while serving.

The actress, who rose to fame with the TV series “Shallow Waters” in 2005, changed her name to Grace-Charis Bassey in 2021 after what she described as a spiritual encounter.

She’s known for roles in films like “Kokomma” and “Miracle”, and has won several awards, including Most Promising Act at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

Meanwhile, Adeola, daughter of veteran Nollywood actress Jumoke George, has returned to Nigeria after being stuck in Mali for four years.
