It was gathered that the incident happened on Sunday, May 11, while the family was on their way to church.
According to reports, they encountered officers from “Operation Sweep,” a security task force in the state.
In a video shared by Gwamnishu, the man’s wife is heard crying out in distress: “You are beating my husband! You are supposed to be protecting us We are going to church. We are on the street‘.
The footage shows the husband, still in the driver’s seat, struggling with an officer dressed in military camouflage.
At one point, the man said, “I dey respect your uniform,” trying to de-escalate the situation.
Meanwhile, their little son, visibly frightened, can be seen crying inside the car.
Reacting to the incident, Gwamnishu expressed anger and disappointment, questioning why officers who were tasked with going after criminals in the forest were now turning their focus on innocent residents.
He called on the Delta State Government to step in immediately and hold the officers accountable to prevent further abuse of power and harassment of civilians.
KanyiDaily had reported how a soldier, Saeed Sabo, was arrested by the police for stabbing a 34-year-old man to death in Umuahia, Abia State.
