Nigerian Senate Approves ₦1.81 Trillion 2025 FCT Budget

The Senate has approved the 2025 budget for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), setting total spending at around ₦1.81 trillion for the year.

This approval came after the bill passed its third reading, following a report presented by Senator Mohammed Ibrahim on behalf of a joint committee.

The committee reviewed contributions from both the Senate and the House of Representatives, in line with provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.

According to the report, the entire budget will be funded through expected revenue for the year.

Here’s how the ₦1.81 trillion will be spent:

  • Personnel costs: ₦150.35 billion (8.29%)
  • Overhead costs: ₦352.03 billion (19.41%)
  • Capital projects: ₦1.31 trillion (72.31%)

This means recurrent expenses—covering salaries and running costs—will total ₦502.38 billion, while capital projects will take the largest portion of the budget.

The committee noted that the budget was prepared after thorough discussions with the FCT Minister and key members of the FCT Administration.

The goal is to boost infrastructure, improve public services, and meet the needs of people living in Abuja and nearby areas.

This comes weeks after President Bola Tinubu sent the ₦1.78 trillion budget proposal for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the Senate, asking for its approval for the 2025 fiscal year.
