Kenyan President William Ruto has jokingly lamented about a growing trend of Kenyan women marrying Nigerian men, including his daughters.
Speaking at a wedding ceremony in a video that’s now making the rounds online, Ruto humorously pointed out that Nigerian men seem to be winning the hearts of Kenyan women more often lately, and he couldn’t help but wonder why Kenyan men are falling behind.
“My daughter is married to a Nigerian, and this one is now married to a Nigerian. And our guys around; I don’t know, are you slow? I don’t know. We need to balance this scale because at this rate, we are going to have a brain drain from Kenya.
”I think there is something between Kenya and Nigeria, we should pick it up further,” Ruto said
President Ruto’s comments, though clearly made in jest, sparked plenty of reactions online.
Many found his playful tone refreshing, while others joined in the conversation with their own thoughts on cross-cultural relationships between men and women in Kenya today.
