Simon Guobadia, the estranged husband of American reality TV star Porsha Williams, has returned to Nigeria after being released from the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
His friend and business partner, Tai Savet, confirmed to “Us Weekly” that Simon Guobadia flew out of the U.S. a few days ago and landed in Nigeria on Monday, June 9.
Guobadia, 61, had been held at the Stewart Detention Center in Georgia near Atlanta due to his long-standing immigration issues.
According to Savet, it was the businessman’s first experience being in any kind of detention, but he’s handling it well and staying positive.
Back in February, Guobadia was detained as part of a broader immigration crackdown focused on people who had overstayed their visas.
He first came to the U.S. in 1982, but left when his visa expired. After returning again, he overstayed a second time—an action that eventually led to his arrest.
Now back home, Guobadia isn’t sitting still. He’s already launched a T-shirt campaign aimed at raising awareness for those still in ICE custody.
The project ties in with his own immigration story and shows his desire to stay involved in conversations around immigration reform.
Despite everything he’s been through, Tai Savet said Guobadia holds no grudge against former President Donald Trump.
In fact, according to Savet, he’s open to talking with him about how immigration laws are being enforced and the impact of large-scale deportations.
