United States President, Donald Trump stumbled while climbing the stairs to board Air Force One during a trip to Camp David.
The stumble happened on Sunday, June 8, shortly after he spoke with reporters in Hagerstown, Maryland.
He was asked whether he would consider invoking the Insurrection Act in response to protests in Los Angeles over immigration raids.
“Depends on whether or not there’s an insurrection,” Trump replied.
When pressed further about whether he believed an insurrection was actually happening, he said, “No, no, but you have violent people. And we’re not going to let them get away with it.”
Asked if he’d consider deploying troops even without invoking the Insurrection Act, Trump responded, “We’re going to have troops everywhere. We’re not going to let this happen to our country. We’re not going to let our country be torn apart like it was under Biden.”
Trump’s misstep on the stairs quickly stirred reactions, especially since he has often mocked former President Joe Biden for similar incidents during his time in office.
“I’m surprised he hasn’t replaced those stairs with a portable escalator of some kind,” wrote RC Huffman.
“Time to get Old Man Trump fitted for a wheelchair,” Ron Filipkowski joked.
Jason DeSanto, a law lecturer, chimed in with, “More beta energy.”
Journalist Aaron Rupar pointed out the irony, saying, “When Joe Biden did stuff like this, Fox would play the clips over and over like it was as significant as the moon landing.”
Political strategist Marco Frieri added, “Cannot wait for all the books and wall-to-wall coverage.”
