A community leader in Nimo, Anambra State, Chief Augustine Ezedinachi, has been killed by suspected kidnappers despite receiving a N15 million ransom from his family.

Chief Augustine Ezedinachi, also known as High Chief Gbafankiti na Nimo, was a respected elder and a member of the Nimo Royal Cabinet.

He had retired from his work as a Chevron contractor and had returned to his hometown to focus on farming and raising livestock.T

It was gathered that tragedy struck on June 19, when masked gunmen kidnapped him from his farm located behind St. Michael’s Secondary School in Nimo.

Eye witnesses said the armed men took him away at gunpoint and disappeared without a trace.

Shortly after the abduction, the kidnappers contacted his family using his phone and demanded a ransom.

Though details of the negotiation were not made public, sources say the family paid N15 million.

Despite the ransom, the kidnappers killed Chief Ezedinachi and left his body on the same farmland where he was taken.

His corpse, found with deep machete wounds to the head, has since been recovered.

KanyiDaily also reported how auspected kidnappers killed Alhaji Abdullahi Kpotun, a ward PDP chairman in Kwara State, along with his son.
