Buhari’s Body Leaves London For Burial In Daura

The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari left London on Tuesday morning and is on its way to Daura in Katsina State, where he will be laid to rest with full state honours.

It was gathered that Buhari’s body was conveyed on a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) craft on Tuesday before 8am.

Vice Presiden, Kashim Shettima who is currently in London, is leading a top-level delegation from the Federal Government to handle the final paperwork and make travel arrangements for bringing the late president back to Nigeria.

On Monday, the Federal Government announced that President Bola Tinubu will personally receive Buhari’s body in Katsina before it’s taken to Daura for burial.

During a press briefing in Abuja, the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris said Buhari, who died on Sunday at a hospital in London, is expected to arrive in Nigeria by midday Tuesday.

He added that the funeral prayer (Jana’iza) will take place in Daura, followed by the burial at Buhari’s home.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will personally receive the remains of the former President in Katsina.

“Upon arrival in Katsina, a brief military ceremony will be held at the airport before the body is moved to Daura.

“The Jana’iza (funeral prayer) will take place thereafter, followed by interment at the late President’s residence,” Idris said.

As part of national mourning, President Tinubu has ordered condolence books to be opened in all federal ministries, departments, agencies, and Nigerian embassies worldwide.

Another register will be placed at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

Idris also revealed that world leaders are sending their condolences, highlighting Buhari’s international influence and legacy.

The minister announced that 25 members of the Federal Executive Council have been directed to attend the burial rites in Katsina and will also stay in Daura for the Third-Day prayer service scheduled for Wednesday.
