Voting began on Saturday morning in Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State to elect a new representative for the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency, following the death of the former House of Representatives member.

Accreditation of voters started at 8:30 a.m., with voting kicking off an hour later.

Residents turned out in good numbers to cast their votes.

The exercise is part of nationwide by-elections taking place across 13 states, where voters are choosing new lawmakers for the Senate, House of Representatives, and state assemblies.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the by-elections are being held in 16 constituencies spread across Jigawa, Edo, Ogun, Oyo, Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano, Taraba, Kogi, Niger, Enugu, and Zamfara States.
