Police Uncover Bomb On Farmland In Borno [Photos]

Borno State Police Command has recovered an unexploded bomb found on farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area.

A statement on Monday by the state police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, said the discovery was made after a farmer, Babagana Kachalla, reported seeing a strange object on his land.

Following the alert, the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, dispatched the Commander of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit in Maiduguri and his team to the site.

The device, which turned out to be a cluster bomb measuring about 2.2 meters long and 30 centimeters wide, was partially buried in the ground.

The statement reads “in a proactive security operation, has successfully recovered an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) discovered on a farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.

“The recovery followed a report from one Babagana Kachalla, who sighted a suspicious object on his farmland.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, promptly deployed the Commander of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13, Maiduguri, alongside his team, to the location”

The area was sealed off while EOD experts carried out a controlled demolition before safely extracting the bomb’s components.

” The EOD-CBRN Operatives conducted IN-SITU demolition before the extraction of the cluster munitions plates” he said.

Daso confirmed that the operation was completed without any casualties.

Members of the community were sensitized on Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORA) to enhance their knowledge on safety precautions when such dangerous objects are discovered” he said.

The police command assured the public of its continued efforts to keep communities safe and urged people to remain watchful.

Members of the public are strongly advised to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious items or activities to the nearest police station” he said.
