At least 24 people lost their lives on Friday night after a female suicide bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at a local food joint in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to reports from Zagazola Makama, a platform that monitors insurgency activities around the Lake Chad region, the attack happened around 10 pm on Friday.
Police sources told the outlet that the woman detonated an IED while people were gathered at the food spot, leaving several other people badly injured in the explosion.
The publication reported that the blast killed the female bomber instantly, leaving her body shattered, noting that only her head was found after the explosion.
Makama added that the victims’ bodies were taken to a mortuary, and those who were injured are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
Security personnel, including the military, police, local hunters, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), later arrived at the scene.
The area has been sealed off, and extra security measures have been introduced in Konduga to guard against more attacks.
Attempts to get a statement from the Borno State Police Command were unsuccessful, as they did not respond to requests for comment.
