Two soldiers and a nine-year-old boy lost their lives on Thursday night when insurgents launched a deadly raid on military facilities in Banki, a town in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack, which took place around 10:15 p.m., was directed at the Bula Yobe forward operating base, the 152 Battalion, and the divisional police headquarters in Banki.
Reports from Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency outlet, said the assailants also burned three military vehicles during the assault.
Troops came under intense fire and had to call for air support.
Acting on intelligence, two A-29 Super Tucano jets were deployed and launched multiple strikes on the fleeing fighters, killing at least 32 Boko Haram and ISWAP members.
The soldiers who died have been taken to Maiduguri for burial, while the young victim, identified as Ismail Abubakar, was returned to his family for proper rites.
Security sources confirmed that reinforcements have been sent to Banki and the surrounding areas to forestall further attacks.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Borno State Police Command recently recovered an unexploded bomb found on farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area.
