Abdulmumin Jibrin, who was expelled for engaging in activities that undermine the party, had hinted that he might dump the NNPP for another political platform.
“Anything can happen, I can leave NNPP and I can stay, and I can also return back to APC, PDP, ADC, PRP or anywhere I want,” Jibrin said.
”When I make decisions regarding that, people will know. It’s not surprising I did, and I told you, I am old enough to decide for myself.”
Speaking at a press briefing in Kano on Saturday, the NNPP state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, accused Jibrin of consistently attacking the party and its leadership through the media.
He dismissed the lawmaker as a “weak politician,” saying his electoral success was made possible by the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP, not by his personal influence.
“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a member of the house of reps. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” Dungurawa said.
“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add.”
Dungurawa added that Jibrin had failed to pay his mandatory party dues, warning that the NNPP would take legal steps to recover the money.
“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he added.
Reacting to speculation that Jibrin might return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the NNPP chairman insisted the party would remain strong regardless.
He stressed that politics is built on coalitions and that the Kwankwasiyya movement continues to stand solidly with its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
