The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed Governor Biodun Oyebanji as its consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.

The endorsement took place on Monday during a party gathering in Ado-Ekiti.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved the motion for Oyebanji’s adoption, which was supported by Stephen Aribasoye, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly.
Usman Ododo, chairman of the APC congress committee, said the decision reflected Oyebanji’s impressive performance in office and his contributions to the state’s development.
He added that the endorsement also showed the party’s unity and discipline, as well as the trust Ekiti residents have in the governor’s leadership.
The APC National Working Committee (NWC) had earlier backed Biodun Oyebanji’s candidacy after Atinuke Olayemi Omolayo, the last remaining aspirant, withdrew from the race.
Two other aspirants, Kayode Ojo and Abimbola Olawumi, had been disqualified earlier in the process.
Speaking after the event, Governor Biodun Oyebanji thanked party members for their show of support and unity.
He said, “You can see that our members are happy and united in one accord to exercise their franchise.
“In all the wards, delegates were elected by consensus — that speaks to the harmony between the leadership and membership of our party.”
Oyebanji noted that the APC in Ekiti has become more vibrant and appealing since he assumed office nearly three years ago.
“In the last three years, we have made the party more appealing to the people. Many from other political parties have joined us because we have delivered on our promises,” he said.
Looking ahead to the 2026 election, Oyebanji expressed optimism that the APC would record a landslide victory.
“By the grace of God, our target on June 20 next year is to win all 177 wards — a record that has never been achieved in Ekiti state,” he said.
KanyiDaily recalls that Abiodun Oyebanji, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), was first sworn in as the Ekiti governor in October 2022.
