The viral video shows several police officers in Owerri, the state capital, wearing berets and caps linked to the Vikings confraternity, also known as “Denmark (DNKI).”
In the video, the officers can be heard chanting “men mount” and shooting sporadically into the air.
State Police Commissioner Aboki Danjuma has ordered a full investigation into the incident, calling the behavior “unethical and unbecoming” for members of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement issued by police spokesperson Henry Okoye, the commissioner promised that those involved would face disciplinary action once the investigation is completed.
“The commissioner of police strongly condemns the conduct as unethical and unbecoming of police officers,” the statement reads.
“He assures the public that the matter is being handled with utmost seriousness and that upon conclusion of investigations, the officers involved will face serious disciplinary measures in accordance with police regulations.”
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professionalism and carrying out its duties responsibly, in keeping with the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force.
