President Bola Tinubu will be in Jos, Plateau State, on Saturday to attend the funeral of Nana Lydia Yilwatda, mother of All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe.
The trip was confirmed in a statement on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
“President Tinubu will depart Lagos for Jos to attend the funeral prayers in honour of Nana Lydia Yilwatda Goshwe,” he said.
After the burial rites, the President is also expected to meet with church leaders from across northern Nigeria at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) headquarters in Jos.
The statement added, “President Tinubu will return to Lagos on the same day after the visit.”
Tinubu had earlier sent condolences to Professor Yilwatda, describing his late mother as “a woman of virtue who lived a life dedicated to faith, service, and community.”
He urged the APC chairman to take comfort in the life she lived and the legacy she left behind, while praying for strength for the family to bear the loss of Mama Lydia, who passed away at the age of 83.
Professor Yilwatda became the national chairman of the ruling party in July.
The President’s visit comes months after he condemned repeated attacks in Plateau communities.
In April, he expressed outrage over violence in Bassa Local Government Area that claimed more than 50 lives and left homes destroyed.
At the time, Tinubu offered sympathies to Governor Caleb Mutfwang and called for stronger political will to secure lasting peace, stressing that unity and love must rise above religious and ethnic divisions.
