The meeting aimed to emphasize the Nigerian Army’s commitment to working with community leaders to ensure stability and peaceful coexistence across the country.
In a post on X, the army said the visit reflected its renewed focus on building stronger ties with traditional institutions to support national unity, peace, and security.
“The visit highlights the renewed commitment of the Nigerian Army to strengthening civil–military relations and fostering collaboration with traditional institutions in support of national unity, peace and security,” the army wrote.
The meeting came less than a day after the United States carried out air strikes on ISIS positions in Sokoto.
According to the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), the strikes were conducted at the request of Nigerian government.
The Defence Headquarters later confirmed that the Nigerian military worked alongside the US in executing the operation.
Samaila Uba, the director of defence information, said the strikes were carefully planned to target militants while reducing the risk of civilian casualties.
However, Ladan Salihu, a broadcaster and former director-general of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), argued that the strikes missed their target.
He said the bombs fell in Jabo village in Tambuwal LGA of Sokoto, where residents reported no deaths.
The Ministry of Information clarified that the intended target was Buani Forest in Tangaza LGA of Sokoto.
It also noted that debris from the strikes landed in Jabo and Offa in Kwara State.
