Nigerian Air Force Denies Violation, Reveals Why NAF C-130 Landed In Burkina Faso

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says its aircraft that landed in Burkina Faso on Monday did so purely for safety reasons and followed all required aviation rules.

Earlier reports from Burkina Faso and its allies in the AES accused the Nigerian plane of entering the country’s airspace without permission.

Rumours also spread online claiming that the Nigerian military crew had been arrested and detained.

In a statement on Tuesday by NAF spokesperson Ehimen Ejodame, the air force explained that the crew flying the C-130 aircraft noticed a technical issue and had to make a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, which was the closest airport.

Ejodame, an air commodore, said the crew was safe and had been treated respectfully by officials in Burkina Faso.

He added that the aircraft would soon proceed with its original flight to Portugal.

The statement reads, “SAFE PRECAUTIONARY LANDING OF NAF C-130 AIRCRAFT IN BURKINA FASO

“The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) wishes to clarify reports regarding the diversion of a NAF C-130 aircraft during its ferry mission to Portugal on 8 December 2025.

“Following takeoff from Lagos, the crew observed a technical concern which necessitated a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, the nearest airfield, in accordance with standard safety procedures and international aviation protocols.

“NAF crew is safe and have received cordial treatment from the host authorities.

“Plans are ongoing to resume the mission as scheduled.

“The Nigerian Air Force appreciates the support received during this period and assures the public that NAF remains professionally committed to strict compliance with operational procedures and safety standards, ensuring the protection of its personnel while fulfilling its constitutional mandate.’

KanyiDaily recalls that the Nigerian Air Force on Sunday carried out air strikes on fleeing plotters of a failed coup in Benin Republic.
