Sources told SaharaReporters that the shooting happened on Monday afternoon at Rigange Junction.
The incident happened after earlier attacks by armed groups believed to be Chobo-speaking militia, who targeted several communities in Lamurde Local Government Area.
A community leader said that 12 women were hit by the gunfire and seven died on the spot, adding that five others were rushed to Numan General Hospital and are receiving treatment.
Local residents said the women had gathered to express their anger over the delayed response of security agencies, claiming soldiers only arrived long after the attackers had left.
“The women were angry, frustrated, and tired of burying their own,” another source said. “They were demanding answers. Instead, what they got were bullets.
Efforts to obtain the Army’s official reaction are still underway, but no statement had been released at the time of filing this report.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Adamawa State Government had announced a 24-hour curfew in Lamurde Local Government Area and nearby communities after another outbreak of violence involving the Bachama community and suspected attackers from the Chobo community.
