BUA Chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu, has pledged cash rewards to Nigeria’s Super Eagles after their 2-0 victory over Algeria in the AFCON 2025 quarter-final.

BUA Chairman, Abdulsamad Rabiu Rejects APC Appointment

Rabiu announced in a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle where he congratulated the national team for what he described as a “brilliant victory” that lifted the spirit of the nation.

“Congratulations to our Super Eagles players on a brilliant victory against Algeria,” Rabiu wrote. “You have lifted the spirit of the nation, and we proudly cheer you on as you prepare for the semi-finals.”

As part of his pledge, the billionaire businessman said he would reward the players with $500,000 if they win the semi-final, in addition to $50,000 for every goal scored during the match.

Rabiu further announced a larger incentive should the Super Eagles progress to win the final, promising $1 million, alongside $100,000 for each goal scored in the final.

“Should you go on to win the final, I further pledge USD $1,000,000, plus USD $100,000 for each goal scored in the final,” he stated.

He concluded his message by wishing the team continued success and urging them to keep making the country proud.

“Wishing you continued success as you carry Nigeria forward. Keep making Nigeria proud. Proudly Nigerian,” Rabiu added.

Nigeria defeated Algeria 2–0 on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in Marrakech to book their place in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams early in the second half sealed the victory, sending the Super Eagles through to face hosts Morocco in the last four.

The victory sparked widespread celebration across the country, with many Nigerians and corporate leaders rallying behind the team as they chase continental glory.

Cristiano Ronaldo Sets Guinness World Record With 200 International Appearances

Argentina thought they had doubled their lead three times before the interval but Messi and Lautaro Martínez -- twice -- were ruled fractionally offside after racing clear of the Saudi defence. Both Martinez's disallowed goals were special, the first a dink over the onrushing Alowais, who was then sold a brilliant dummy for the second after the Inter Milan striker had been sprung again from Messi's pass. Argentina's early penalty came after the referee consulted the pitch-side monitor but will raise further questions about consistent application of the laws at the tournament, given it was a less compelling claim than Harry Maguire's appeal in England's 6-2 win over Iran yesterday. Argentina were dysfunctional and pedestrian in Russia four years ago and here they were just too easily unsettled by a proactive, high-pressing and well-organised Saudi side. By half-time, they had wracked up more offsides, seven, than in the entire 2018 World Cup. Saudi Arabia, who lost captain Salman Al-Faraj to injury in the first half, will now fancy their chances of qualifying from a group containing Mexico and Poland, while the Argentines must lick their wounds and recover from an historic failure.
