A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday granted Nollywood actress Angela Okorie bail set at ₦5 million over allegations of cyberstalking, threats, and harassment.

Court Grants Actress Angela Okorie N5m Bail Over Cyberstalking Charges

Angela Okorie is facing a seven-count charge under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act.

Prosecutors claimed the actress posted offensive and threatening messages on social media.

Earlier reports showed that she was arrested on Tuesday by officers from the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department.

After being arraigned, Angela Okorie was remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State.

When the case resumed on Friday, prosecuting lawyer Victor Okoye informed the court that an amended charge dated January 30, 2026, had been filed and served on the actress.

Her lawyer, Ernest Nwoye, confirmed receiving the updated charge, after which Okorie pleaded not guilty to all seven counts.

According to court documents, the actress allegedly posted messages between 2024 and 2025 on her social media accounts directed at fellow actress Mercy Johnson.

The prosecution argued that the statements were offensive, threatening, and capable of disturbing public peace, as well as endangering the complainant.

One of the charges accused Okorie of knowingly sharing false and harmful messages intended to create tension and threaten Mercy Johnson’s safety.

Count 2 of the charges reads: “That you Angela Okorie ‘F’ of 1 Lekki Palm City, Henry MonteronStreet, Ajah, sometime between 2024 and 2025, in the Federal Republic of Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did knowingly and intentionally transmit or cause the transmission of communication through computer system or network on your various social media handles, wherein you stated, ‘Blood sucking demon no see blood suck again, E say na sliming tea, Except there is no God, MJ go and beg people you chop their destinies and destroyed their homes else no peace for the wicked!!! Gospel songs won’t save you. Your heart is dark’, statement you made referring to Mercy Johnson, knowing it to be false for the purpose of causing a breakdown of law and order, and posing a threat to life of the said Mercy Johnson.”

The alleged offences are said to violate provisions of the Cybercrimes Act, as amended in 2024.

In another count, the prosecution claimed that some of the posts referenced the complainant and her late mother in a way that amounted to bullying and harassment, allegedly causing fear of harm.

During the bail hearing, Okorie’s lawyer asked the court to release her, arguing that she is a well-known public figure with a fixed address and no intention of avoiding trial.

He said the bail request was supported by an affidavit and written submission.

The prosecution opposed the application, stating that the actress had previously been granted administrative bail but did not report back as required.

They also said she was being investigated for other offences that carry possible prison terms of three to 10 years.

In response, the defence described the claims as misleading, stressing that his client had informed the police she was undergoing medical evaluation.

He said she provided medical records showing she had suffered a bullet wound and promised to report back after returning to Nigeria.

In his ruling, Justice Emeka Nwite said there was no solid evidence to show that the actress would fail to appear for trial.

The judge granted her bail in the sum of ₦5 million with one surety in the same amount.

He said, “The bail is granted to the defendant/applicant in the sum of five million naira with one surety in like sum who shall be deposed to an affidavit of means.

“Two, the surety shall be a civil servant of grade level 13, who shall deposit his or her appointment and last promotion letter. The defendant/applicant, together with his surety, shall each deposit two copies of their recent passport photograph with the Deputy Chief Registrar of this court.

“The defendant shall be remanded in the Correctional Centre pending the perfection of her bail. That is the ruling of the court,” Justice Nwite added.

The case has been adjourned until March 23, 2026, for the continuation of trial.
