The governor made the declaration during a statewide broadcast on Friday.
He said the decision was not his alone, as members of his cabinet, political appointees and all elected local government chairmen in the state moved with him to the APC.
Fintiri explained that the switch was made in the best interest of Adamawa and for the sake of national unity.
He said aligning more closely with the Federal Government would help the state achieve its development goals.
Earlier in the week, the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Wesley Bathiya, also resigned from the PDP along with 14 other lawmakers.
He announced their exit during plenary, where he read out their resignation letters after the day’s legislative work.
Mahmud Kallamu, chairman of the House Committee on Information, who is among those who left the PDP, said the move was carefully planned and strategic.
