Kwara Killings Perpetrated By Islamic Extremists – Governor Abdulrazaq

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq said that the recent deadly attack on in the state was carried out by Islamic extremists.

KanyiDaily had reported that at least 170 people were killed on Wednesday when gunmen attacked Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.

Kwara State Police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said that several houses were set on fire during the attack which started around 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Speaking after the incident, the governor’s chief press secretary, Rauf Ajakaye, explained that the victims were Muslims who were targeted because they refused to accept extremist beliefs being forced on them.

The governor later addressed religious and security leaders at the Government House in Ilorin, where he said the communities were attacked simply because they rejected a distorted version of Islamic teachings.

From the information we’ve been getting, this village refused to succumb to a perverted form of Islamic doctrine,” Abdulrazaq said.

“They aligned under the emirate, abiding by the Islamic faith. They didn’t want an alteration to how they pray to God, how they pray to Allah. Because they refused a change in the doctrine, they were attacked and massacred.

“It’s different from what we used to see when persons were kidnapped for ransom. But this was just a pure massacre and should be condemned.”

KanyiDaily recalls that bandits recently attacked the busy Isanlu–Isin–Omu Aran highway in Kwara and abducted at least four travelers.
