The attackers reportedly struck the community on Tuesday, burning homes, shops, and places of worship, and leaving several residents injured.
In a statement, Amnesty International condemned the killings, describing the incident as “horrifying.”
The group noted that while Boko Haram has not claimed responsibility, the style of the attack and accounts from survivors suggest the involvement of the terrorist group.
Amnesty added that bodies were scattered across the village, and many buildings were still smouldering hours later. Several residents remain missing.
The organisation urged authorities to step up efforts to protect lives and bring those responsible to justice.
State police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje said Adamawa Police Commissioner Dankombo Morris visited the affected communities to assess the situation.
The commissioner led a team of senior officers to review security deployments and strengthen coordination with other security agencies, including the military.
Nguroje said the commissioner met with the emir of Madagali, the local government chairman, and members of the affected communities, including residents of Shuawari Kirchinga ward.
He expressed sympathy for the victims and assured the community that efforts were underway to restore peace and increase security in the area.
The police added that the exact number of casualties is still being confirmed, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri vowed that the state would seek justice for the victims and said his administration would not be intimidated by the attacks.
