FULL LIST: Alao-Akala’s Family Fight Over His Properties In Nigeria, UK, US, Ghana

A disagreement over the properties left behind by Adebayo Alao-Akala, former governor of Oyo state, has brought to light the large number of assets owned by the late politician.

The issue came up during a hearing at an Oyo State High Court, where his first daughter, Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto, is contesting how the estate is being handled.

Court documents show that Alao-Akala owned several properties in different places, including Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, as well as in the United Kingdom, the United States, and even a five-star hotel in Ghana.

Aderinto filed the case, asking the court to step in over concerns about how the estate is being managed.

She named Oluwakemi Alao-Akala and Olamide Alabi as defendants, describing them as those in charge of the estate.

She told the court that, as the first child of the late governor, she has a rightful share in the inheritance.

However, she claimed that some properties had already been sold without informing her, while plans were ongoing to sell others or enter business deals involving the assets.

According to her, the court needed to act quickly to stop further actions that could affect her share, warning that she could suffer losses that cannot be reversed if nothing is done.

Aderinto also requested that DNA tests be carried out on herself and six other individuals including Olamiju Alao-Akala, to confirm their biological relationship with the late politician.

She asked that the tests be done in an approved laboratory, with the results submitted directly to the judge.

Aderinto asked the court to allow the exhumation of her father’s body for the paternity test, with the findings to remain sealed until they are officially presented in court.

In its ruling, the court ordered that no property linked to the estate should be sold or used in any transaction until the case is decided.

The court also directed that the matter be handled quickly.

The case has been postponed until April 16, 2026, when the court will decide on that request.

Adebayo Alao-Akala died on January 12, 2022, at the age of 71 in Ogbomoso.

Since his death, disagreements have continued among family members over how his properties should be shared.

The assets listed in the dispute include homes, lands, filling stations, businesses, and properties across several locations in Nigeria, as well as houses in New York in the United States and Essex in the United Kingdom, along with a hotel in Ghana.
