The speculation started after Victor Osimhen, who plays for Galatasaray, spoke during a livestream with Carter Efe.
In the session, the 27-year-old shared his long-term plans to invest in football once he retires, including buying a lower-division club in Turkey and linking it with a team in Nigeria’s top league.
His idea is to create a pathway that helps young Nigerian talents move from local football to Europe.
Following reports claiming that Istanbulspor was the club Osimhen intended to buy, Istanbulspor’s president, Ecmel Faik Sarialioglu, said there is no truth to those claims.
Sarialioglu explained that although they have seen the reports, the club has not received any official offer or confirmation from Osimhen.
“We’ve seen reports that Osimhen is going to buy Istanbulspor. But as the club president, I can confirm we haven’t received any official confirmation,” he said, according to Turkish outlet Milliyet.
Osimhen’s idea appears to be driven by his own experience. Growing up in Lagos and working his way through a difficult journey to professional football, he wants to build a system that makes things easier for young players.
Founded in 1926, Istanbulspor is one of the oldest clubs in the city, and over the years, they have gone through ups and downs, including dropping out of the top division in the 2004/05 season.
Because the club is not among Turkey’s biggest sides, it could appeal to an investor looking for a project with less financial pressure and more room to build something new.
KanyiDaily recalls that Victor Osimhen recently revealed how he was treated badly by a senior player when he first joined the national team camp.
