New England Patriots Set To Part Ways With Stefon Diggs After One Season

A league source told ESPN that Diggs, 32, was informed by team officials that he would be let go on Wednesday, March 11.

The move comes just one year after he signed a three-year contract worth $63.5 million with the team.

Reacting to the news, Diggs shared a message on his Instagram Stories on March 4, thanking the team for the past season.

THANK YOU for a hell of a year. We family forever,” Stefon Diggs wrote.

The decision follows recent legal troubles for the NFL star.

Weeks earlier, Diggs pleaded not guilty to charges that include felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery.

His time with the Patriots was also marked by several off-field controversies.

In May, a video circulated online showing him handing an unidentified substance to women on a yacht.

Later in December, he was arrested after a woman accused him of slapping and choking her.

Away from football, Diggs’ personal life also drew attention.

His relationship with Cardi B, with whom he welcomed a baby in November, reportedly ended around the same time the Patriots reached the Super Bowl last month.

On the field, Diggs still produced solid numbers during his only season with New England.

In his 11th year in the National Football League, he recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.

Financial considerations may also have played a role in the team’s decision.

According to ESPN, Diggs’ salary cap figure was set to jump from $10.5 million to $26.5 million.

If he had remained on the roster through next week, he would also have been owed an additional $6 million in guaranteed money.

Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine last week, Patriots coach Mike Vrabel praised Diggs for his effort during recovery from the torn ACL he suffered in 2024.

He worked extremely hard in the time that he was rehabbing from the knee.

“I think he was just a really good presence each and every week,’ Vrabel said, according to USA Today.
