Jimoh Ibrahim Assumes Office As Nigeria’s UN Permanent Representative
António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has received Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s new permanent representative to the UN.

Jimoh Ibrahim presented his letter of credence on Monday, marking the start of his appointment.
On April 1, Ibrahim had been formally cleared by the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take on his new role.
In a statement by Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on media and publicity, Ibrahim assured the UN and the global community that President Tinubu would tackle the long-standing issues facing Nigeria.
Ibrahim also called for international support and cooperation.
Ibrahim’s appointment, however, has faced criticism from several civil society organizations (CSOs), which raised concerns about his involvement in legal cases related to alleged corruption.
The CSOs have petitioned both President Tinubu and Guterres to reconsider Ibrahim’s appointment, arguing that his nomination as Nigeria’s UN representative is of major national and international importance.
